Milwaukee; Riverside High School. Milwaukee, the University of Wisconsin Madison from 193S 1942; the University of Wisconsin Graduate School of Banking; and courses in plan ning, commercial law and commercial real estate at schools located in Chicago. Military service consisted of active duty in the Infantry from 1942-1946, and reserve duty from 1947 1957. He obtained the rank of major. He married Marjorie Vogel in 1942 in Milwaukee; she died in 1968.

He married Patricia Fair-bairn Lambert on Sept. 24, 1990, at Waukesha, Wis. He is survived by children, Robert O. (Ann) Pohl Jr. M.D.

of Jacksonville, William C. (Dawn) Pohl of Dayton, Ohio, and Elizabeth Pohl of Boston; stepchildren, Richard (Susan) Lambert of Momence, and Dorothy (David) Lambert Block of Onaiaska, five grandchil- -dren; six stepgrandchildren, and a brother, Neil (Jean) Pohl of Littleton, Colo. His career included Dun and Bradstreet 1947-1957. Banking: Merchandise National Bank of Chicago, LaSalle National Bank and Glenview State Bank, Commercial Loan Officer, Vice Presidents of Marketing, Human Resources 1957-1978. Consultant to various financial institutions 1978-1983.

Voluntary public affair activities, 1982 to present. Superintendent of state parks, Illinois; leave from LaSalle National Bank from 1969-1970. Consultant for Recreational Open Space, NE Illinois Metro Planning Commission, 1976. Natural Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, director and secretary, 1986 to present. National Forest Service, North Carolina, 120 days service, 1987-1991.

Duties involved recreation guides. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Winona, 1991 to present. He organized the "Friends" group and developed public information material. He was also a trustee for the city of Glenview, for four years, and president of the Glenview Park District for 16 years and active in Graff ic Arts in Chicago.

Memorial services are tentatively set for May 17, at the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge. Burial will be at Wood-lawn Cemetery; the Rev. Leif Pohl will officiate. Memorials may be directed to the National Resources Foundation of Wisconsin or the Winona Area Hospice Services. Martin-Myhre Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Anne Stirn ALMA, Wis. Anne Stirn, 81, of Alma died Sunday (March 24, 1996) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, Minn. She was born Jan. 24, 1915, in Milwaukee to John and Theresa (Mueller) Hosster.

On Nov. 14, 1936, she married Clarence Stirn in Milwaukee. He died in January of 1977. Anne was a member of the Alma American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include four grandchildren; one sister, Theresa Kocher, Milwaukee; one brother, Joseph (Veronica) Hosster, Brookfield, and two sisters-in-law, Emma Stirn, Alma, and Elf a Kochenderfer, Winona, i She was preceded in death by her husband and son, John.

Private services will be held at Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home, Alma; the Rev. Elroy V. Conradt will officiate. Burial will be in the Buffalo City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Johnson Evelyn G. Johnson, 92, died Tuesday (March 26, 1996) at the Sauer Memorial Home. She was born on Jan. 18, 1904, in Winona, to Alex and Sena (Knutson) Erickson. She graduated from Winona Senior High School.

She married Pearlom S. Johnson in 1926 in Winona. He died on March 15, 1996. She worked for the P.S. Johnson Law Firm prior to retirement.

She and her husband lived in the general Winona area until 1982 when they moved to Piquot Lakes. Prior to coming to Sauer Memorial Home in February of 1996, she was a resident of the Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Home in Pine River, Minn. She was a former member of Central Lutheran Church and Cedar Valley Lutheran Church. She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Nancy Johnson of Edina, and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 28, at 1 p.m. at Cedar Valley Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kris Fahey officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from noon until 1 p.m.

Gulbrandsen, formerly of Winona, died Thursday (March 21, 1996) in Lombard from a massive stroke. He was born to G.J. (Bill) and Esther Gulbrandsen, and graduated from Winona High School. He was a pilot and served as a lieutenant in the Navy. He later worked for United Air Lines, and then as a pattern maker in Illinois.

He was still doing pattern work until the time of his death. George is survived by his wife, Eleanore; two sons, Richard (Nanci) Gulbrandsen of Newton, and Robert (Sherry) Gulbrandsen of Spring Valley, three stepchildren, Barbara, Susan and James of Illinois; two grandchildren, Stephani and Christopher Gulbrandsen of Newton; his stepmother, Ruth Gulbrandsen; and a sister, Joyce Gulbrandsen, both of Winona. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Paul. A memorial service will be held in Illinois in late April. will be an 8:30 p.m.

Ethel E. Larson, 89, of Nelson died Tuesday (March 26, 1996) at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha, Minn. Arrangements will be announced by Stohr-Hagen-Wozney Funeral Home, Alma. Elinor was a 1935 graduate of Winona Senior High School.

In July of 1939. she married Bill Woodford at Fort Peck. which ended after a few years. On Jan. 12, 1909, she married Eugene A.

Klade of Merrill. in Spring Valley, Minn. El lie was an employee of the Winona Hotel from 1947-61 and then of the Main Tavern from 1961-73. She was a longtime member of her cherished Christian community on West Wabasha Street. Many fun hours were spent "on the road" with husband, Eugene, when he worked full time for Hauser Art Glass Co.

as a stained glass salesman. She was known for being able to organize and having the ability to make people laugh. Her friends from Randall's to Kmart can attest to her social skills. She loved her poodle, Penny, and enjoyed her visits with schnauzers Buster and Babe. Elinor treasured her life in Winona and its rich history.

Survivors include her husband; his four children; a son, Roland (Bonnie Woodford, Minnesota City, a daughter, Judy (Florian) Kleiber, Wisconsin Rapids, four grandchildren: Kendra (Douglas) Cieslak, Madison, Andrea (Edward) Chao, Princeton, N.J., Sondra Kleiber, Winona State University, and Chad Woodford, Rochester, and a sister, Alice (Milton) Krings, San Jose, Calif. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 28, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Oliver Lindholm and the Rev.

John Schuetze officiating. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at Fawcett Funeral Home today from 4-7 p.m. and at the church Thursday after 12:30 p.m. until the time of service.

Ervin Bublitz, Douglas Cieslak, Chad Duerkop, Fritz Kleiber, George Leifeld, and Delwin Tschumper will be casketbearers. Jean L. Plachecki Jean L. Plachecki, 70, of 528 Maceman St. died Monday (March 25, 1996) at Community Memorial Hospital.

She was born Oct. 23, 1925, in Winona, to Herbert and Ella (Schultz) Teska. On Oct. 4, 1948, she married Paul B. Plachecki in Winona.

Jean was previously employed as a secretary at Winona Senior High School. Mrs. Plachecki was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid, Women's Guild and Circle Sarah. Survivors include her husband, Paul two sons, George (Maggie) Plachecki, Burnsville, and Randy (Denise) Plachecki, Plymouth, three grandchildren, Kara, Sarah and Katie; three brothers, Owen (Ginny) Teska, Portland, Herbert "Corky" Teska Mesa, and William (Mary Lou) Teska, Minnesota City, and two sisters, Elizabeth Frost, Winona, and Joan (Benedict) Wehlage, Minnesota City.

She was preceded in death by. her parents, a son, Paul Plachecki III (in 1990), and three sisters. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, with the Rev.

Kenneth Tatkenhorst officiating. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery, Winona. Friends may call Thursday after noon at St. Martin's Lutheran Church.

Arrangements are with Fawcett Funeral Home. Lawrence Doble ANAHEIM, Calif. Lawrence Doble passed away on March 24. Lawrence was survived by his wife, Rose Mary; mother, Gladys Doble; sister, Eleanor Jean Grie-sel; and six children. Lawrence was born in Winona on Jan.

19, 1930. He grew up in Homer, and attended the Homer Grade School and Winona Senior High School. In 1946 he entered the Air Force, continuing as a career soldier for 28 years. He served in both the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict. He was presently retired and living in Anaheim.

WINONA COUNTYMonday The Winona County Sheriff's Department recovered a 1995 Chevy pickup and license plates from a 1990 Cadillac that were reported stolen from Clement Chevrolet in Rochester. Deputy Steve Baumgart noticed the vehicle around 11 p.m. at Rich's Truck Service in Goodview and later saw two males flee from the truck on foot.
