1 1 A4 DAILY RECORD WEDNESDAY, March 11, 2009 winonadailynews.com APRIL 28. 1923 MARCH 6,2009 Barbara Ann Meierbachtol Barbara Ann Lucille Paine and Billie Meierbachtol, 85, of Winona died March 6, 2009, at Lake Winona Manor in Winona. Barbara was born April 28,1923, in St. Paul, to Clarence and Lulu (Seidlitz) Meierbachtol. After her father's death in 1935, Barbara and her mother moved back to the Seidlitz family home at 464 Wilson Street, Winona.

Lulu worked as the church secretary for Central Methodist Church. Barbara graduated from Winona Senior High School and attended Winona State Teachers College for two years. In 1942, the FBI came to Winona recruiting to work in Washington, D.C. Barbara applied, was accepted and spent the next 21 years working for J. Edgar Hoover.

Her job involved reading and clipping newspaper articles and assembling files on particular individuals. She returned to Winona. in 1963 and worked as a purser on the Julius C. Wilkie steamboat. For many years, Barbara also worked at the Watkins Home gift shop and served as an election judge at the polls.

In 1990, Barbara and her aunt, Bunny Seidlitz, sold the family home and moved into the Kensington Senior Apartments, where they both thrived on the many activities there and made many good friends. Barb and Bunny traveled to Europe, Hawaii and Jamaica, as well as on many trips along the Mississippi River aboard various paddle-wheelers. Florida was a favorite winter destination, visiting Barbara's aunts, Kullberg. Barbara was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school to second-graders and to sixth-graders. She was active in Women's Circle, LIFT group, and worked on many a rummage sale and church supper.

Always gregarious, Barbara enjoyed getting together with friends, playing cards at the Senior Center, attending Learning Club programs at Winona State or Book Chats at the Winona Historical Society, going out to eat with the Red Hatters, or cheering on her favorite Minnesota Twins (or Vikings, depending on the season). She is survived by first cousins, Robert James Seidlitz of Wabasha, Helen Roedecker of Bloomington, H. Michael Breza of Washington, N.C., and Jane Holloway of Newark, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents and many uncles and aunts. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, at Central United Methodist Church.

Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery. The family would like to express their deep appreciation 1 to Barbara's church, the Winona Health Hospice Services and especially the caring staff at Lake Winona Manor. Martin Doloris L. Martin, 85, grandchildren, Brittany of Winona died Monday, and Bret Martin and March 9, Kailey and Jenna 2009, at Kronebusch; one brother, Lake William (Leona) Multhaup of Rollingstone, Manor. and sister-in-law, She was Dolores Fritz of Winona. born Nov. She was preceded in Martin 20, 1923, in death by her parents, Chicago to Milton and Helen (Novak) Multhaup.

She married Eugene Martin on Nov. 21, 1942, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Winona. He died July 8, 2001. Doloris worked a number of part -time jobs over the years but was mainly a homemaker and stayat-home mom for her three sons.

She is survived by three sons, Jack Martin of Madison, Thomas (Patty) Martin and Michael Martin, both of Winona; two grandchildren, Brian (Bette) Martin and Wendy (Jeff) Kronebusch, both of Winona; four great- Milton and Helen; her husband, Eugene; and a sister, Arlene. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, at St. Casimir's Catholic Church, Winona. The Rev.

James W. Hennessy will officiate. Friends may call at St. Casimir's Church on Thursday, March 12, from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass.

Grant, 56, of Winona died peacefully Saturday, March 7. 2009, at his home with family and friends by his side Grant after a Thomas J. Grant SEPT. 17,1952 MARCH 7,2009 courageous battle with pancreatic-liver cancer. Tom was born Sept.

17, 1952, in Winona to Edwin and Betty (Sines) Grant. He married Carol Sutter on Sept. 4,1982. Tom and Carol had two sons, Chad and Tim. Since he was little, Tom had a passion for cars.

At the age of 16, he began dirt track racing at Tri-Oval Speedway in Fountain City. For many years, he was seated behind the wheel of race car No. 91. Tom was employed by Philipps Bus Service, Winona, for 32 years. He drove school bus and later charter bus, until his illness prevented him from working.

He made many tours to places including Branson, and area casinos. Tom also safely transported passengers from the area, including college athletes and local band students to places from Canada to Florida. Tom enjoyed camping, fishing, duck hunting, and spending time with his family, friends and fellow drivers, He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his wife, Carol; and sons, Chad and Tim of Winona. He is also survived by his father. Edwin Grant of Winona; brother, James (Tish) Grant of Bluff Siding, sister, Kris Praxel of Winona; niece, Kara Wenger; and nephew, Ian Stanford both of Winona; motherin-law, Delores Sutter of Fountain City; and many aunts and uncles.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; an infant sister; and father-in-law, Merton Sutter. A visitation will be held at 8:30 a.m. Thursday until time of memorial service at 11 a.m. at Fawcett-Junker Funeral Home: Winona. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery, Winona.

There will be an extended visitation after the burial at the Winona American Legion, 302 E. Sarnia St. The previously scheduled benefit for Tom's family will still be held on Sunday, March 15, at the Elk's Club in Winona. Edwin W. Grant AUG. 25, 1922 MARCH 8, 2009 Edwin W. Grant, 86, Winona; sisters, Betty passed away Grant Grant Sunday, March 8, 2009, at his residence in Winona. He was born Aug 25, 1922, in Isles, to Earl and Dora Grant.

He lived through the depression years and entered the U.S. Army in 1942, serving honorably in Europe until the end of World War II. He married Betty Sines on June 22, 1946, and then attended watch makers school in Kansas City. He worked many years for Cortland Jewelers as a skilled jeweler and watch repairman, later opening his own family business Edwin's Jewelers in Winona. Edwin loved to fish and spent many hours water fowl hunting with friends.

20, 1911, in the town of Cross, Buffalo County, a daughter of Andrew E. and Rose (Rothering) Barth. On June 28. 1944, Lorraine was united in marriage to Jerome Literski at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fountain City. Jerome preceded Lorraine in death on April 20, 1991.

Lorraine attended Fountain City schools, graduating from Fountain City High School with the class of 1930. She then graduated from Buffalo County Normal School located in Alma and later the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She taught school for 18 years in the one room schools of Buffalo County and then taught another 18 years at Fountain City, Waumandee and Arcadia Catholic grade schools, retiring in 1977. Lorraine was a life. time faithful member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Fountain City active with St.

Mary's Altar Society. She was also an active member of the Buffalo County Democrats and Buffalo County Retired Teachers. She liked crossword puzzles, reading encyclopedias and politics. Lorraine will be remembered by her family for her strict, yet loving personality and teaching them to never say "I can't do that." Lorraine is survived by her two daughters, Diane (Barth) Literski MARCH 8.2009 (John) Lambert of Trempealeau and Claire (Dennis) Waters of Fountain City: three grandchildren, Robert Lambert of Fountain City, Michael (Holly) Lambert of Waterford, and Melissa (Tim) Fitzpatrick of Dodge; seven greatgrandchildren, Dresden, Paris, Dawson, Deklen, Isabella Lambert and Hunter and Kiley Fitzpatrick. Besides her parents and husband, Jerome, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Andrew, Ralph and Roman; and sisters, Viola and Flora Barth, Evelyn Dicaire and Marcella Abts; along with two brothers and two sisters in infancy.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 13, at 11:30 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Rick Roberts as celebrant. Burial will be in the Parish Cemetery in spring. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until the hour of the mass at the church.
