Residents of the Dakota apple orchard area noted that trees have not budded out yet sufficiently to be affected, as far as is known, by the cold and snow. Generally, they said, the moisture was considered desirable for growing conditions.

Elsewhere in Minnesota: Heavy, wet snow measuring up to eight inches brought snow removal equipment back to northern Minnesota roadways once again today and forced school closings in many areas. In the Bemidji area where snow-compacted roads made driving difficult, all schools were closed and some local meetings were canceled. Roads in the Duluth area were "continuously glazed, snow compacted and very heavy going," according to the state Highway Department. Considerable drifting was reported. Duluth city schools were open, but neighboring Proctor students got a spring snow holiday.

Many schools on the Iron Range also were closed. In Pine County, officials closed school in Pine City and elsewhere to keep buses and other vehicles from damaging rain and snow-saturated gravel roads. Crookston schools were open but many in the area were closed because of snow to eight inches over the weekend. Some church services Sunday were canceled in the Fertile area southeast of Crookston. The Highway Department reported Minnesota 220 closed about five miles north of Oslo, in Marshall County near the North Dakota boundary.

Other stretches of the highway were awash because of field water flooding. The Weather Bureau predicted light snow in the north and light snow or very light rain in the through Tuesday, but diminishing in the extreme south tonight and Tuesday.
